December

The month to enjoy the festivities ...

Portugal

It’s time to stop thinking of Portugal as simply a spring, summer or autumn destination. Even in winter, skies are mostly blue, the sun still shines and the temperatures are mild.

Want to enjoy beach club lunch in Comporta, followed by Christmas shopping in Lisbon? Consider it done. Or ditch the cities altogether and cozy down in the Alentejo countryside - where great food, delicious wine and warm hospitality are everything you need to kick off the festive season - São Lourenço do Barrocal is our top pick here.

Maldives

December marks the start of the dry season in the Maldives and what better way to spend Christmas, than in island paradise.

With so much choice, we know all to well that picking the right island can feel overwhelming. As one of Papillons top destinations, we really take the time to match you with the perfect fit but here are a few of our all time favourites; Soneva fushi & Six Senses Laamu for rustic barefoot luxury, Vakkaru is always a top choice for families and the
easily accessible Gili Lankanfushi will always be a personal favourite when it comes to style.

Grenada, Caribbean

December is the perfect time to swap the festive crowds of Barbados for Grenada’s laid-back charm. The palm-fringed beaches, amazing food scene, and great choice of understated luxury hotels make it a firm 'Christmas in the Caribbean' favourite.

Family owned Calabash Grenada proves it’s popularity with guests returning year on year. Pair with a few nights at Silversands Beach House, where picking a beachfront bungalow to leaves you mere steps from the sea.

Want to extend your stay? Combine with Antigua or Barbados.

South Africa

Summer in the southern hemisphere is in full swing and there are fewer countries that captivate it more perfectly than South Africa. Cape Town's streets and beaches are buzzing with activity, glasses are clinking in the Winelands and driving the Garden Route is a road-trippers dream. Where wildlife viewing in Kruger might be less predicable, the Eastern Cape can step in - Big Five included.

South Africa is home to some incredible places to rest your head, far too man to mention, however guests favourites include; Grootbos (The Garden Route); La Clé (The Winelands) and Mount Nelson (Cape Town).

Colombia

There really is no bad time of year to visit but December truly is a highlight because Colombians know how to do festive!

Start your trip Medellin where streets are decked in Christmas lights, before moving on to fun and vibrant Cartagena where the party never stops. Keep the energy flowing with a trip to coffee country, or position yourself on the pacific coast for blissful recovery at the beach.

Guests who like to get a little off the beaten track won’t be disappointed in making the effort to reach Barichara - logistically not the easiest, but stunning scenery and great dining options are well worth the journey. Charming Casa Yahri is the place to stay.
