August

The month to take the long holiday...

Indonesia

Unlike much of Southeast Asia, Indonesia shines in August with dry, sunny days and calm seas. With no set itinerary we’ll plan everything around your interests. Be it culture, adventure, beaches, culinary or wellness, we will design the perfect combination, advising how much time to dedicate to each stop along the way.

Bali buzzes with energy, Komodo lures adventurers eager to see its famed dragons, and Sumba offers the rugged luxury of island life - a stay at NIHI Sumba is one you’ll never forget. On Java, travellers can dive into the island’s rich culture, history, and volcanic landscapes, while divers across the archipelago enjoy exceptional visibility. Sadly it’s not the best time to discover the wonders of Raja Ampat, but what a reason to plan your return.

Peru

Dry season continues in August, bringing crisp, clear skies across the breadth of Peru. The iconic Machu Picchu might be the main draw here but it doesn’t take long to realise Peru offers so much more - history, culture, gastronomy (oh, the ceviche) - it has it all.

We work with a wide range of lodgings but the Andean Collection is particularly captures our vibe with it’s beautiful circuit of properties - taking you through Lima, Arequipa, Colca Valley, the heart of the Andes, culminating at Lake Titicaca. The Belmond Andean Explorer is also high on the agenda. Sol Y Luna provides the perfect base for Cusco, The Sacred Valley & treks to Machu Picchu.

Norway

August is a beautiful time to experience the Norwegian fjords, with long days, mild temperatures, and waterfalls in full flow.

From scenic cruises and mountain hikes to charming coastal villages, the landscapes are at their most dramatic. It’s also festival season, when Norwegian culture spills into the streets under endless daylight.

Although the temptation might be to stay in the southern region, our advice it to plan more time you think you’ll need and venture north. The Lofoten islands and surrounding areas are becoming more popular, with accommodation options like the sea cabins of Manshausen making the effort extra appealing.

Tanzania

The dry season in August makes for excellent wildlife viewing across Tanzania’s reserves. The Great Migration is in full swing and vast herds thunder across the plains of the Serengeti and into Kenya’s Masai Mara.

Picking the perfect lodge can be overwhelming but we’re here to guide you. We love the private reserves of Singita, the stunning aesthetics at Legendary Camps and the ethos of Chem Chem Lodges - each tent has their own vehicle, tailoring the schedule to you - no early wake-ups required.

After safari, the beaches of Zanzibar are at their best. Go the extra mile and feel like Robinson Crusoe at & Beyond Mnemba Island Lodge.

The Balearic Islands

August sees The Balearic Islands at their most vibrant.

In Ibiza, days are spent at chic beach clubs, world-class restaurants, and taking private boat trips along the coast, while nearby Formentera exudes laid-back, rustic charm. In fact this sister island is having a bit of a moment and we highly encourage a stay here, not just a day trip. As well as great dining spots, the boutique hotel scene is popping and we’re excited for the arrival of Can Jordi from Vestige Collection, set to open this summer.

Mallorca balances golden beaches with hilltop towns and buzzing marinas, while Menorca appeals not only to families but also adventurous couples, with coastal hikes and open-top jeep tours offering a different perspective on its unspoiled landscapes.
